How They Met
Like so many these days, KC & Laura met on a dating app, despite - as they discovered from our early conversations - having been going to many of the same haunts and events around Portland for a couple of years before they met. When they did get to their first date, they just clicked into place together. Dinner led to looking for open places to keep the night going, followed by 3 additional dates in 5 days, a way-too-early island camping adventure, a family wedding, accidentally moving in together, "officially" moving in together, a few amazing international trips and finally, another island camping adventure - this time with a ring in tow. All the shared references, slightly unhinged opinions, and effortless comfort from the first night were indicators of where they would end up - best friends, best support systems, best partners in crime, best advocates, best person to grow old with.
The Proposal
Laura - We went back to camp on the island where we had our early adventure date. He was nervous and couldn't even wait for me to get settled before proposing. He kept following me around the camp while trying to get me to stand still, and I couldn't figure out why. I was completely surprised!
KC - She actually gave me the idea by suggesting we go camping on the island again. I already had the ring and thought it would be the perfect location. After weeks of her pushing it off, I finally got her on the island. But before we could get there, I had to switch out my kayak rental (smarter this time) for a bigger one, during which time the wind and waves kicked up again (of course). When we finally got there, she just didn't stop moving. I was locked and ready to go, but she would not give me an opening. I actually started proposing 3 different times. Eventually, I had to actually hold her in place so I could ask her to marry me.
The wedding is to take place on September 6, 2025
